Phone and trade directories
In times past, to find out the telephone number of a business in York, England, or to discover the manufacturers of furniture in Colorado, USA, you would have to come into the library and hope to find a large directory that covered the subject.
All that is changing. Today many of these directories are available online. Christchurch City Libraries has gathered them together in their Internet Gateway to make them easier for you to find.
Some examples of the directories included are:
- Telephone directories from countries around the world
- New Zealand directories on a large range of subjects
- The Thomas register, providing details of companies, products and services in the USA
- India's Importers' directory
- Braby's Red index, business directory covering Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.
There is a growing trend for material that used to be printed to now only be published online. With no end in sight to this trend, this geographically arranged collection of directories is set to grow and grow, so bear this website in mind when trying to find that elusive piece of information.
