Office partnerships
can make or break corporate goals

The administrative professional (AP) and management relationship is important in corporate teams striving towards the same goal writes Erin O'Hara Meyer in the latest issue of OfficePro.

The effectiveness of the relationship often comes down to 10 points that Officepro has identified — we have included a selection of them below.

  • Speak up (AP)
Tell your manager what is causing frustration and offer solutions in return.
  • Listen (manager)
Many APs are intimated to approach a manager with a frustration. An effective manager alleviates any fears and welcomes new insights and ideas.
  • Be resourceful (AP)
Research all avenues for finding additional information — think independently and imaginatively.
  • Guide (manager)
A manager that guides also facilitates success. A successful manager gives you enough information to complete the task.
  • Ask questions (AP)
Get clarification before starting. Make sure you understand any expectations placed to complete a task.
  • Specify (manager)
Effective managers set specific expectations: how, when, where, with whom.
  • Educate yourself (AP)
Stay current with technology and the most efficient way of completing tasks.
  • Invest (manager)
Recognise that training is an investment not an expense.
