It’s New Year’s Eve, time to review the year that was and plan for 2008.
Digital to the fore
In May, we started the Christchurch City Libraries blog, with a book-room blitz at the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival.
Constantly updated, the blog has posts on everything from the best book covers of 2007 to historical fiction, music, movies, authors, literary prizes and more.
It’s an ongoing project and a great way to get up-to-date information about topical material.
Posters and parades
We also launched a range of digital material during the year. 1980s Christchurch music posters, like the Dick Driver Dance Band, 1981 Springbok Tour posters, the Hay’s parade and a photo collection of the libraries’ tukutuku panels were all made available online this year.
It’s part of the libraries’ ongoing commitment to collecting and sharing the stories of Christchurch and Canterbury.
Dig deeper with databases
This year we’ve also profiled our collection of electronic databases.
Your library card and PIN give you free access to a huge collection of paid-for databases from large publishers. You can find a full listing here. If you're looking for detailed information on any topic next year - these databases could be your secret weapon. If you need assistance, why not talk to a librarian live online?
