ESOLESOL students are welcome in our libraries and we have many resources that they will find useful.

Services

Tours and tutorials

Tours and tutorials help you and your students familiarise yourselves with our libraries and resources.

  • Tours may be general or may focus on a specific topic (e.g. travel and tourism), part of the library (e.g. Aotearoa New Zealand Centre), or resources (e.g. our catalogue, databases or Internet)
  • All tours and tutorials must be booked well in advance - see our Contact Us page for contact details

See our Services for New Settlers page for additional information in a selection of languages.

Membership

It is free to join the Library.

If you intend to bring a group of students in for enrolment, it is a good idea to ring the library beforehand to arrange a time - see our Contact Us page for contact details.

Resources

World Languages

To reflect the diversity of new settlers to Christchurch we have growing collections in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Persian, Arabic and Russian and smaller collections in some European languages.

English Language Skills

All libraries have ESOL/Adult Literacy collections which include study books of grammar, vocab, reading and writing as well as reading books at different levels and easy non-fiction books.

Audio-visual materials are available including IELTS. These often need to be reserved because of their popularity.
