Children's Day 2008

Children’s Day was celebrated on Sunday 2 March. It is a special day to spend time as a family and perhaps try things you haven’t done before. This year the key theme will be ‘new experiences’.

For something special this Children’s Day, visit one of our great libraries which are open on Sunday. Beside the sea at New Brighton, in the bustle of the city at the Central Library, next to the busy Palms Mall in Shirley and at Beckenham (South Library) and Upper Riccarton, you’ll find vibrant, up to date and family friendly libraries open from 10am to 4pm. Come away with an armful of great books, dvds, cds and much more for the whole family to enjoy.

Did you know our children's DVD collection has over 700 items, all are described in our catalogue as to whether they are based on older or younger fiction, picture books or are non fiction. To view this collection browse our catalogue with the subject “childrens dvd collection”. You can also browse the catalogue with the subject “childrens videos”. We have over 400 childrens videos.

Keep up the family visits throughout the year for preschoolers we have a great range of sessions at our libraries with songs, games and stories specially tailored for everyone from babies to those just about to start school.

The library website also has great resources for parents including reading lists.
The Kids section of our website will give you more details about the range of resources we have for children to help them have fun with their reading and help with their homework.
