- Opal Dream (Pobby and Dingan)
- This 2000 first novel by Ben Rice is a likeable and touching tale set in a small New South Wales town known as the opal capital of Australia. It's a town filled with colourful and very eccentric characters and the title characters don't really exist. They are the imaginary friends of young Kellyanne, the daughter of a miner. The rest of the family are too busy with their own lives to take much notice when the young girl says her friends have disappeared but eventually they recognise how important it is to her and her brother organises a search party to find the imaginary pair. A story that appeals to children and adults, the producers are hoping for the same audience that made films like Whale rider so successful. English director Peter Cattaneo (The full Monty) is directing Vince Colosimo and Jacqueline McKenzie as the parents and newcomer Saphire Boyce as Kellyanne.

- The other Boleyn girl
Philippa Gregory’s 2001 bestseller is an historical tale set in and around the court of Henry VIII. It was filmed quite well for television in 2003 but predictably it had no screenings in this country on free to air television. The T.V. version had Jodhi May as Anne Boleyn and Natascha McElhone as her sister, the woman of the title. Jared Harris played the king. Presumably this television adaptation made no waves in the U.S. which is why a large scale film version surfaces a mere three years later. This version is directed by Justin Chadwick who made the critically acclaimed television serialisation of Bleak house. This time around the actresses are younger and the woman of the title is played by Scarlett Johansson with Natalie Portman as Anne Boleyn and Eric Bana as Henry.
