A very long engagement

This is a powerful novel, set just after the end of World War II, about a woman's search for the truth behind her fiance's disappearance. It is thought that he was one of the five French soldiers taken to their own front line and left for the Germans to shoot in 1917. The film is a real departure for Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Audrey Tautou, director and star of the hugely successful Amelie. Jodie Foster and a large French cast are in this expensive production.
