Douglas Wright

  • Born 14 October 1956 in Pukekohe.
  • Began dance career with Limbs Dance Company in 1980.
  • 1983-1987 danced with the Paul Taylor Dance Company of New York, one of the top American dance companies.
  • Began choreographing (creating) dances for his own dance group in New York.
  • Returned to New Zealand in 1988 where he created his first full-length dance Now is the hour for Limbs.
  • Worked with DV8 Physical Company in 1988 on the award-winning Dead dreams of monochrome men.
  • 1989 formed his own dance company in New Zealand, which has toured New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.
  • Dances created include How on Earth (1989), Gloria (1990), Forever (1993) and Buried Venus (1996)
  • Work has been performed by the Australian Dance Theatre and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
