David Cohen Prize

The David Cohen Prize is awarded every two years to a living writer, novelist, short-story writer, poet, essayist or dramatist in recognition of an entire body of work, written in the English language. The writer must be a British citizen. The winner is chosen by nomination and entries are not required. The prize is valued at £52,500 - this includes an Arts Council contribution of £10,000 to enable the winner to encourage writers and readers. From 2005, The David Cohen Prize also incorporates the Clarissa Luard Award, which allows the recipient to donate £12,500 to a project which encourages young people to read.
