The Lammies are awarded by the Lamba Literary Foundation which is devoted to the recognition and promotion of gay, lesbian, transgender, and bisexual writing. A juried award with a rigorous selection process, acknowledgements are made in twenty categories.
Each year's awards celebrate books published in the previous years, so the 2007 awards honour winners for the 2006 year. The 2008 awards ceremony is on the 29 May, for the 2007 publishing year.
